In the title story Comanche Prairie, Torp Toynbee finally achieves his ambition as trail boss only to be falsely accused of murder. He escapes from jail but how can he prove his innocence while a fugitive? River of Gold is an historical short novel set in Oregon just before Congress declared it a Territory. Mike Trahan plans to build a barge for the river trade in wheat, the source of wealth in Oregon. Everything is upset however, by the discovery of gold in California. Hundreds of wheat farmers abandon their families and the wheat remains unharvested. No Man's Land finds small cattleman, Bart Tyler, turned away with his herd from the winter graze and shelter vital to his survival. Desperate, Bart resorts to an insane strategy.
