Publisher's Synopsis

In this book Sheena takes you step by step through various methods of how to use stranded cotton floss to create and hand embroider exciting colour and number combinations which range from very simple to complex. She also shows how you can use printed motifs for embroidery and illustrates a variety of quilted backgrounds. In the final section there are ideas of how photos of landscapes can inspire thread colour selections and stitch techniques for more painterly pieces. Sheena Norquay was born in the Orkney Islands which lie to the north of Scotland. Having been a primary school teacher in Inverness for 30 years, she became a freelance quilting teacher and lecturer in 2006 and has exhibited and taught nationally and internationally. She has won many awards for her work which is mainly influenced by her love of Orkney, its colours, birds and seascapes as well as by her interest in pattern and her attention to detail
