I am most impressed with Altman's sonic textures, as in an early poem of this multifaceted collection. Through nervy diction, even the most macabre of vignettes in Altman's work transcend mere transcription: "coyotes had roared into their hunger / and snagged all the deer's life away, / but the hide was left intact /like a burlap sack draped over bones." I eagerly await Altman's future work. It inspires me.
