Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Coal in Illinois, 1896: Containing the Thirteenth Annual Reports of the State Inspectors of Mines
The mines of this State may, roughly, be divided into two classes, Shipping and local. The former are for the most part extensive and costly plants, involving a large outlay of capital, employing a large number of men and not depending for a market upon the local trade.
