Publisher's Synopsis
Clovis and Clothilde is the story of Clovis, the first king of the barbarian tribe, the Franks. It follows his revolutionary life, his joys, grief, conflicts and his love. It is also a story of Clothilde, a princess from Burgundy, based on true events happening during the tumultuous era of barbarian invasions in Gaul, present day France. It is an adventure filled with war, greed, murder and revenge but it is also a love story of two very different people with very different backgrounds but who, together, changed the future of France. As the beggar was barefoot, Clothilde began to wash his feet as she had done for so many others. But she was not prepared at all for what happened in the next few minutes when the beggar bent forward and whispered under his breath, "Please, my lady, I am not really a beggar." Clothilde did not stop what she was doing but her heart skipped a beat at the sound of these words. "Do not be afraid, my lady; I have a very important message for you from Clovis, King of the Franks.......I am here on a secret mission." Clothilde whispered, "I can say only that I am being kept prisoner by my uncle who wishes to marry me to the Prince of the Alamans against my will." "Then I bring you very good news. I can help you, my lady. But you must listen carefully."
