Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Closing Argument of Henry W. Muzzey, Esq., In Behalf of the Respondents, Before the State Board of Health: December 29, 1873

This resolution was passed either in ignorance, or disregard, of the facts, that the Legislature had already oordered both the filling and the sewer, that the work was in progress, and that the State Board of Health had no jurisdiction in the premises. After the air ing of much in?ammatory rhetoric, the}r also passed a resolution calling upon the Cambridge Board of Aldermen to petition the State Board of Health to proceed against the slaughter-houses. But the Aldermen refused the request, as applicable to any of these establish ments, and declined to take 'action against that of Mr. Squire by the strong and significant vote of eight to one, the single affirmative vote being cast by an Alderman who had had a personal difficulty with Mr. Squire.
