Publisher's Synopsis

This text aims to provide a comprehensive body of information concerning the clinical usage of interferons. The book covers the history of the development and introduction of the interferons, as well as chapters on their mechanism of action and a look to the future. There are also sections on the use of interferons in viral diseases, in haematological diseases, in solid tumours, in non-malignant diseases and in other indications (especially interferon beta and interferon gamma). Because of the broad nature of toxicities which may be associated with therapy with interferons, there is also a chapter included on their toxicity, as well as a chapter giving advice on the practical administration of these agents. In the current socioeconomic climate, some countries (notably Australia and Canada) require an economic evaluation of any new drug in the marketing application. Therefore the authors address the economic implications of the use of these costly new agents within this work.
