Publisher's Synopsis

The company proposing to build a new pulp and paper mill in East Harbour, Nova Scotia, claims it will bring a backward community into the twenty-first century. Ryan Cooper believes them--he thinks it'll bring badly needed jobs to the town and keep people from having to move away.

But Ryan's girlfriend Alana, a native of the Mi'kmaq First Nation, isn't so sure. She worries about what the mill's clearcutting and pollution will do to the local environment. When she learns it's going to be built on sacred Mi'kmaq land, she decides to fight the company. With a little digging, Ryan and Alana find an environmental impact study that raises a lot of unanswered questions about the project. But the fight to stop development creates deep--and dangerous--divisions in the impoverished community.

Clearcut Danger is the story of two courageous young people who take a stand to protect what they feel is most valuable in their community.
