Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Clarissa; Or the History of a Young Lady, Vol. 2 of 8: Comprehending the Most Important Concerns of Private Life; And Particularly Shewing the Distresses That May Attend the Misconduct Both of Parents and Children, in Relation to Marriage

My engagement, by which I undertook to break off all correspondence with him, unless my friends should be brought, by the interposition of his powerful friends, and any offers they might make (which it was rather his part to suggest, than mine to intimate) to change their minds.
