Publisher's Synopsis
It's dark and still. The only light I can see is streaming in from the window, which connects the hallway of the hospital to this room. There are a few lights flickering from the monitors. I watch her lying there looking helpless and weak. I can't believe this is the same Leia I've known since kindergarten. The doctor in charge of Leia calls my mother and me into his consulting room as we wait for the nurse to find the papers my mother has to fill in. "Mrs. Kemp, you realise Leia is in a very fragile state at present and needs constant care for the next few months. It's demanding to look after someone who is struggling with an eating disorder," Dr. Gregory explains. The words hit my chest like sharp arrows. I look down and try to cover my reaction. Leia has an eating disorder? Of course, I knew that something wasn't right, but hearing the doctor diagnose her condition made it so official, so much worse. Chaeli and Leia became best friends on the first day of school but from that day to the present their lives have shifted in very different directions. Chaeli has spent countless hours trying to help Leia who is suffering with an eating disorder and emotional scars from an unhealthy abusive relationship. As the two girls navigate their way from adolescence to adulthood their friendship emerges from the complications, joys and frustrations of dating, healing and heartbreak. Abuse, eating disorders, depression... Can Chaeli's friendship save Leia?
