Publisher's Synopsis
Everyone knows the ever-popular admiral now in his five hundredth plus year as the man who dared to challenge and triumph over the opinion of his day. A few have asserted that there are two sides to the Columbus coin. Certain others have made it plain, there is only one side to the Columbus coin and that it is all bad. In May of last year, at this very court, a grand jury agreed that Mr. Colon's coin may indeed have a questionable side. It will take many days beyond today to discover if the Columbus legacy is counterfeit, or the genuine thing. Colon's indictment is one of the more dramatic upsets of history. If he is convicted of his catch-all charge of crimes against humanity, millions of pages of history will have to be rewritten. Feelings are as strong as they are mixed. Some are inclined to view this trial as a conspiracy by less successful persons and races to tarnish, harass and mar, the fine reputation of one of our more famed and prominent citizens.
