Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Christian Counsel, or Instructions in the Divine Life of the Soul: Intended for Such as Are Desirous to Count All Things but Loss That They May Win Christ

The translation 18 by Mr. J. W. Metcalf, and is a portion of a very excellent work edited by him, entitled Spiritual Progress, and published by M. W. Dodd, New York, 1855.

And now, beloved reader, God has led you, in his providence, to Open this book, that he may do you good. If through his infinite mercy you have had a personal experience of the matters herein written, your heart will be filled with thanks giving and praise as you read. If not, you will find many things strange, and it would not be surpr1s1ng if you should be ready to pronounce some untrue. But ah beware of being wise in your own conceit! The Spirit of God that searcheth the deep things of God, alone can decide.
