AFROFuturismLiterature, multimedia, and graphic arts are the primary catalyst for all social revolutions. It is the fuse that ignites the explosion of cultural change. Founded in the wake of, and in response to, racial controversies in science fiction and fantasy genres, the Diverse Writers and Artists of Speculative Fiction is comprised of writers, artists, poets, screenwriters, filmmakers, and publishers seeking to spread the word about persons of color seeking to change the world. DWASF participates on panels, holds meet-and-greets at cons, teaches workshops, and acts as a resource for other creators. In this first Journal, contributors have offered their thoughts--radical, controversial, impractical, or plain common sense--via the literary medium. You may love it, hate it, or be puzzled. Yet, there is deep thinking embedded in all the stories, poems, conversations, and art. This Journal seeks to enlighten, entertain and education as well as empower anyone with a mind willing to be opened. Take an epic journey into the realms of speculative fiction with an African flavor.
