Publisher's Synopsis

The publication by Paul McCarthy (*1945 in Salt Lake City) is a new edition of Chocolate Factory: Pretext, which has been expanded by 128 pages. It is the striking documentation of the artists' first major solo exhibition in France. It illustrates both the concept of the exhibition as well as its working-over in response to an attack on Paul McCarthy that occurred during the installation of his sculpture Christmas Tree on Place Vendôme. Besides the illustration of the transformation of the magnificent exhibition spaces of Monnaie de Paris through the continued production of chocolate Christmas trees, which are exhibited on ever-new shelves, it also presents the video in which Paul McCarthy deals with both the physical as well as the verbal attack (Are you the f. . .ing artist?).
