Chinchillas are both of species (Chinchilla chinchilla and Chinchilla lanigera) of crepuscular rodents of the parvorder Caviomorpha. they'e slightly large and extra robust than ground squirrels, and are local to the Andes mountains in South the us.[3] They stay in colonies called "herds" at immoderate elevations of up to four,270 m (14,000 feet). historically, chinchillas lived in a place that covered elements of Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, and Chile, however these days, colonies inside the wild are recognized best in Chile.[4] at the facet in their household, viscachas, they make up the family Chinchillidae. they may be also related to the chinchilla rat.
