Publisher's Synopsis

Captain Campbell addressed Pontiac rather than interpreter La Butt, "Major Gladwin said he'll watch you dance and smoke your pipe." Campbell stared into his eyes. "Before ya enter the fort we'll need to search your braves for weapons ... starting with you." Pontiac held up his hand and the blanket covering him dropped to the ground, his men did likewise, showing only their loincloths. Campbell stepped back; Pontiac stood upright, head held high, and completely nude. His body was covered with ocher paint except around his crotch; that hairless area left natural. Chief Pontiac inwardly smiled; this was his first step to drive the English from Fort Detroit. After winning the French and Indian War, English troops quickly controlled former French forts. Ottawa Chief Pontiac united tribes with the intent to eliminate the victorious English from western lands, allowing a return of French hegemony. Instead, English and Americans ended the bloody war and temporarily won a simmering peace.
