Publisher's Synopsis
Subject Scope: Organofluorine chemistry. This book addresses the fact of the trifluoromethyl group, due to its unique stereoelectronic properties, as a very important substituent in medicinal chemistry. The trifluoromethyl group usually increases lipophilisity of the molecules improving their transport characteristics in vivo. Furthermore, the durability of C-F bond comparing with Ñ-Í bond (116 and 100 kcal/mol correspondingly) allows to avoid undesirable metabolic transformations. The introduction of trifluoromethyl group into bioactive molecules becomes very important direction in pharmaceutical studies that stimulates the works directed to elaboration of synthetic methodology for various compounds containing trifluoromethyl group. Due to all these factors organofluorine chemistry has been vigorously developing during the last two decades.
