Publisher's Synopsis
The choice facing Charlie Muffin, the maverick of British Intelligence, puts him at the sharp end. The chance to go to Moscow and bring out a Russian spy leaking invaluable Kremlin material seems a preferable alternative to completing his fourteen-year sentence - part of a deal the plum-voiced bigwigs in the service seem to have reneged on yet again. British Intelligence don't know who their spy is. Neither does Charlie and he has a paranoiac killer for a travelling companion. If he succeeds, Charlie's reward will be forgiveness and rehabilitation. The punishment for getting it wrong will be a life in a Russian gulag that will make British jails seem like a holiday camp. Charlie anticipates all difficulties but one. He doesn't expect to fall hopelessly in love and be confronted with the most agonising choice of all.
