Publisher's Synopsis

A four-volume collection of films based on the novels of Charles Dickens and Frances Hodgson Burnett. In 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' (1936), Freddie Bartholomew plays young Cedric Erroll, the Brooklyn boy who finds out that he is the long-lost heir to a fortune in England. Sent to stay with the frosty Lord (C. Aubrey Smith) who has been looking after the trust, Cedric soon warms his grandfather's heart with his own good nature, while having to prove himself against the local kids in the neighbourhood. In 'Oliver Twist' (1933), Dickie Moore stars in the title role as a young orphan who is expelled from the workhouse run by Mr Bumble (Lionel Belmore). After becoming an apprentice to an undertaker, Oliver decides to run away to London, only to meet the Artful Dodger (Sonny Ray) and fall amongst his gang of thieves, led by the scheming Fagin (Irving Pichel). In 'Scrooge' (1935), Seymour Hicks plays the miserly old moneylender who, on the seventh anniversary of his former business partner's death, is visited by the man's ghost in an attempt to make him mend his ways. Over the course of the night Scrooge is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future (voices of Marie Ney, Oscar Asche and C.V. France). But have the efforts of the ministering spirits come too late to save Scrooge's soul from eternal torment? 'A Christmas Carol' (1951) features Alastair Sim as the miser Ebenezer Scrooge who unexpectedly discovers the Christmas spirit after he is visited by the ghost of his deceased former partner Jacob Marley (Michael Hordern).
