Miss Ebbie Catherine Sullivan is a precocious and inquisitive twele-year old girl growing up during the Great Depression in the southern Alabama town of Charity Junction. Her mother is a mail order bride and her father is a shoemaker from up north. Ebbie Catherine writes letters to the world from either her front porch swing or her feather bed with her hound dog Blue by her side. Her pen is a sacred trust and she believes that one day, through her pen, she will change the world. Ebbie writes about her family life and her adventures with Blue but more than that, she writes about the social causes and the social injustices of the era that so disturb her. Her Mama always tells her she is a young girl in an old soul--that she is. One day she WILL change the world. This is a lengthy series and the first book ends when she is sixteen.
