This work is part of the "Reading 2000" series, which is designed to be a forward-looking reading programme for juniors. It is a wide-ranging and practical package of materials designed to meet the language development needs of the 7-11+ age group. The programme comprises a selection of listening, talking, reading and writing activities which aim to give a base for further study. The series offers topic readers which link reading skills with environmental studies as part of a wider language programme. Although "Reading 2000" is a modular programmme, schools do not need to use the whole of the scheme to derive benefit from these readers which can be used on their own.;This volume looks at some of the different festivals celebrated around the world from family and community festivities to carnivals and Calypso.;Catherine Allan is a Primary Headteacher in Strathclyde and is co-author with James Love of "Scope for reading" and "Resource readers" (Holmes McDougall).
