Publisher's Synopsis
In the summers of 1975, New York City Police Officer Louis Calabrese shot and killed a high ranking Mafia enforcer's son. There is now a contract out on his life. Detective, Michael D'laska, with a background in investigating psychological crimes, is assigned the case. When D'laska digs into Calabrese's life, he discovers an irresponsible man who lives a scandalous lifestyle that is at odds with his profession.
As D'laska investigates whether an uncooperative Calabrese is innocent or guilty of premeditated murder, he quickly learns that the hatred between the Irish and the Italians on the force sometimes overrides justice. He uncovers the endless connections between NYC politics, law enforcement, and organized crime. When the FBI steps in, the pressure mounts on D'laska, he jeopardizes his career by getting entangled with his superior's departmental assistant to obtain confidential information, which brings D'laska's creditably and judgment comes into question.
Calabrese, instead of assisting D'laska, derides him and uses his underworld connections to arrange a meeting with the dangerous father of the man he killed.
