This river is about thirty miles in length, rising in a group of lakes of considerable size, about midway between the mouth of the river and the head of Grand Traverse Bay. The pine lands of the company are in this region, and lie upon the lakes and river and on the waters of Platte river. The whole country between Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan has a fine soil and is heavily timbered with hard wood, well adapted to agricultural purposes.
