Publisher's Synopsis

William Fletcher is from Trinidad, son of the islands white aristocracy which escaped years ago to New York. He lives there alone as he tries to become a writer. Laurence de Boissire is also a fugitive of the island; he is the son of poor blacks who left around the same time as William, with a scholarship to study at Oxford. He is now a well known poet and playwright. The two friends meet again in New York, along with an old flame of Williams, and the three of them promise each other they will go back to Trinidad for Carnival, the islands annual cathartic orgy
