Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Carmel in Ireland: A Narrative of the Irish Province of Teresian, or Discalced Carmelites, A. D. 1625-1896; With a Supplement, Chiefly From the Letters of Irish Missionaries of the Seventeenth Century

The following chapters contain an account of the Discalced Carmelites in Ireland, from their first coming to this country down to the present time. To the Author, the writing of it was a labour of love, undertaken in the hope of supplying for a history now almost lost, owing to reasons that will be duly assigned.

The facts here collected are 'of general interest, and it is to be regretted that long intervals Of time must be allowed to pass with brief remark, because of the frequent want of ms. Material from which the record, might be continued in a less broken sequence Of events. However, the documents at my disposal were such as to enable me to carry out the purpose which I had in view - to show how intimately the Religious Of the teresian reform have been associated with the Faithful of Ireland for nearly three hundred years.
