Publisher's Synopsis
Migration provides a sort of natural experiment which permits comparisons of disease risk in populations of similar genetic background living in different environments. Many countries worldwide have large communities of Italian origin as a result of the emigration of some 26 million people from Italy over the last 100 years.;This volume reports data from each of nine host countries for which cancer incidence or mortality data are available by country of birth, and compares them with the local-born in those countries and with the population that remained in Italy. Where possible, the data are also analyzed by duration of stay in the host country and/or age at arrival, and comments are made on possible environmental causes for the changes observed.
