Everyone has come face to face with the reality that the world isn't always fair. Time and again we have been told that if you are good enough then all the right things will happen in our life. Then we are hit right in the gut with people that prove everything we have thought were right to be wrong. When we are poor, we see how the rich look as if they live without problems. When we are down and out, we see those who have done nothing to help our pain, rejoice. We have experienced those whom we are supposed to love, hurt us, reject us, lie to us, rejoice in our suffering and turn their back on us. How can we love people who refuse to love and support us? Should we even have to try?
No matter how much love and hate we have experienced we still find ourselves wondering about those people we just can't stand. Do we have to love them? No, not if we don't want to experience the fullness of love. To love we must see how the scripture shows us the meaning of love.
Love doesn't ask us to like a person, or, be like the person we can't stand, but it does ask us to look deeper and deeper into our own being and soul. We must ask the question if we reflect on how this person is seen by us. Are they beyond redemption, forgiveness, grace, acceptance, and love? If we do this the question is turned on us. Are we beyond redemption, forgiveness, grace, acceptance, and love? Are we more like the person we can't stand or more like the person God wants us to be? We are not our brother's keeper! We are to be our brother's, sister's friend's, enemies encourager, power prayer and the giver of all God has to offer through us.
