Publisher's Synopsis
SYNOPSIS On this Halloween of year 2005 LITE YEER helps her ancestor Roger throw his teacher out of the window. Why? To make school disappear, of course! But her time travel back to the present turns her into a baby, and she is packed off to live with two aunts who condemn her to a life of drudgery. So when the strange and mysterious Angelina offers to send her once again to Roger, she agrees, albeit time traveling is quite like eating a very bad Alice-in-Wonderland cake (so bad that you shrink into a one-year-old). To her aunts' fury, she signs a transportation contract, climbs on a shicho (Angelina's word for a time machine) and Lite, who, hasn't a family worth the name, sets off for a new life in the seventeenth century. Just as she leaves her aunts' kitchen, she meets her brother Marfel in angel form. As true brothers and sisters, they scream at each other and are best friends. Although they don't agree on how to tackle their journey through space (their shicho brings them beyond the Moon), they joke about colliding with rockets and enjoy eating pumpkin candies. The problem is that in spite of Marfel's warnings, Lite speeds on the shicho, loses her shadow and breaches her contract with Angelina who wants her to change history: by making the legendary Roger the author of the Great London Fire of year 1666! Both Marfel and Lite want school to disappear but they differ in how to do it. With his Time Wheel, Marfel plans to speed up to the future, all the way to the Big Crunch, to end the universe and also, of course, of school (in a last hellish fire). Angelina, however, slows down Marfel's Time Wheel by sending Lite to the past to change history. This is fine with Lite because she loves the magical past where she experiences eventful adventures with Roger, two friends and the ambiguous Marfel. Using his fairy dust, Lite turns two schoolmates into her supporters: Opaca (a girl who used to blow up toilets) and Abbot (a vampire boy who promises Lite to bite her aunts' necks). Following a clue Opaca drops, Lite enchants a tall sequoia into a huge drawbridge. Then Roger and his knights can cross the River Thames, and Abbot guides them out of the labyrinth under the Tower of London (where she promises to fly Shakespeare the sick dragon to a modern vet). After Roger inflames a bakery, he is jailed for greening the Londoners' sky, mere witchcraft that won't make history. But Lite, Opaca and Abbott free him: by flying a ship to his prison whose window bars they attach to the flying ship. Then they bring him to his lover Queen Sophia-Amelia of Denmark whose scribe records his attack, and Lite has - nearly - changed history (almost to Angelina's satisfaction...).True to her word, Lite must still fly Shakespeare to a modern vet, which unleashes chaos on her nasty aunts. Not only does her dragon burn her aunts' lawn and furniture; he also attracts the US Army to their garden. Then the press mentions the name LITE YEER, which launches an investigation and reveals that her parents did not get eaten by a hippopotamus. Contrarily to what her aunts had always told her, Angelina in fact swapped her for another baby her aunts baby-sitted twelve years ago. First furious against Angelina, Lite then bamboozles the scientific police into finding her aunts guilty of the baby swap. After her aunts are sent to jail, Lite joins Opaca and Abbott back from the past, and the three of them enjoy a meal at a restaurant. What pleases Lite is a centuries-old letter from Roger thanking her for her help to burn London. This letter at last really makes him the author of the Great London Fire and, to Angelina's satisfaction, slows down Marfel's Time Wheel for good. Best of all, though, it is vacation time: no more school!
