Publisher's Synopsis
This conference reviewed the technologies being employed in cable construction and installation to minimize both internal and external fire risk, discussing safety in respect of equipment, people and the necessary survival of systems to allow plant shutdown. Power, data and signal cables were covered.;The papers under "technology" dealt with - low fire hazard cable systems, the halogen option for reduced fire hazard cable and systems for sealing fire-rated cable penetrations. "Installations" included - a cable fire at a Danish power plant, using the technology in buildings and water as an extinguisher for fire in cables and electrical installations. "Design and installation practice" considered - fibre-optic distributed temperature sensing, fire protection and cable ratings, and selection and installation of cable systems for emergency lighting and fire alarms. "Testing, specifications and standards" covered - fire survival tests of electrical junction boxes, terminals and cables, fire protection standards and cables, an update on cable standards and finally, harmonization and the effect of 1992.;Two supplementary papers are included covering - ATH filler properties in EVA co-polymers for flame retardant cable applications, fire hazard assessment of wire and cable materials and mineral insulated metal sheathed cable. A delegates list and exhibitor details are also provided.
