Bucharest, Romania's capital and largest city, has a bustling old quarter, impressive buildings from the time of Ceaucescu and great cafes and nightlife. Outside the centre, Bucharest has some fantastic museums and galleries.
Founded in 1459-making it one of Europe's oldest capitals-Bucharest is also home to Romania's largest square, Piata Unirii, where much of the country's history has played out.
