This is a true account of Leland's adventures in the Mediterranean/European theatre of World War Two. He enlisted, in his belief that he could be of some service, to support the war effort. He was knowledgeable in most European languages and their history back to BC. He was never placed where, he thought, he could better serve. He spent his first year in Florida, being moved around to many camps. This was a frustrating experience to one with an early enlistment. In order to overcome boredom, he engaged in a personal study of social science, filling his military duties as only the means to the end. Each movement of General Headquarters (to which he was finally assigned) he volunteered to move into the action, so he could spend his time fraternising with the recently freed natives. He managed considerable free time for this. This book is a collection of his letters reflecting on such times. He earned five service stars for the five combat zones that he was involved in.
