Publisher's Synopsis

This book draws on the careful reflective journaling that I did during the several months just after being received into full communion in the Catholic Church. It reflects some of the joys, as well as some of the hardships and heartaches, inherent in the journey of a former Protestant pastor who converts to Catholicism. These joys, hardships, and heartaches ... the conflict of being Catholic ... have been my constant companion over the entire course of endeavoring to live as one of the Catholic faithful. The conflict is made more difficult, at least in my experience, by the fact that both the hierarchical and social structures that I entered in becoming Catholic offered pitiful little in the way of communicative opportunities for me. My "story", my "testimony", has never been offered an opportunity for expression. I once heard someone make the statement that "the will of God done outside the timing of God is not the will of God." I find a lot of wisdom in the statement. Knowing his will and doing it outside his timing is like forcing a rose to open. We may indeed open it, but in the process of opening it, altogether ruin something that would otherwise be beautiful in time.In publishing Broken Pieces, as part of this untold story or testimony, it is with the hope that it is not only God's will but also within God's timing.
