Publisher's Synopsis
This book has become the standard text on British economic and social policy of the 20th century. Economic and social policy are commonly studied in isolation from each other and therefore one of this book's main aims is to enable the reader to understand the influence of economic policy on social policy and vice versa. Since the first edition was completed in 1985, there have been many changes even within the context of Thatcherism and this new edition includes a new chapter on the Thatcher years through to 1990.
