Publisher's Synopsis
Adaptation of the classic play by Noel Coward and a remake of David Lean's 1945 film. Anna Jesson (Sophia Loren) travels on the same train every day into the city, where she sees her volunteer work as a break from her husband and children. When she strikes up a casual friendship with fellow commuter Dr Alec Harvey (Richard Burton), their relationship soon deepens into unspoken love. Unable to leave her family, Anna is gradually worn down by the deceit of their unconsumated affair, until she realises that the people she is betraying are the people she loves the most.
