Publisher's Synopsis
This is a study of Brecht's poetry from its beginnings in World War I to the 1950s. It draws on recent publications and on unpublished archive material, relating the poems both to Brecht's other writings and to the wider historical context. Individual texts are analyzed in detail, and many previous readings of the better-known poems are reassessed.
