Boston in 1946 is an electrifying city at the end of World War Two. With the war is over, optimism for the future is high, and the Dorchester section of Boston has produced its own premier baseball prodigy, Joseph Michael Flynn, - and he signed to play for the Boston Red Sox. Joe is sent to their minor league team in Kentucky and there he breaks every home run and batting record. While in Kentucky, Joe falls in love with a beautiful nurse who just returned home from the war. Lifelong friendships are formed, ties to the past are presented, and expectations for success run high. Then tragedy strikes the Flynn family. We are then, taken on a dramatic rollie coaster ride of experiences. On the way, we get to meet and engage with some very colorful people and places like Boston's North End, Louisville, KY, New York City, Ireland, Italy, and Cape Cod, A tender and very emotional surprise awaits us at the climax of the story.
