Publisher's Synopsis

Aberdeen Grammar School has a long and distinguished history. Its origins are obscure but are believed to date from the late medieval period, some time before the foundation of Aberdeen's two separate universities - King's College and Marischal College - hence the claims that the Grammar School is one of the oldest schools in Britain. The title of the book, Bon Record, is the modern Grammar school motto; the book traces the fortunes of the School from its beginnings through the centuries to its recent transformation into a co-educational comprehensive school, serving much of the central and western districts of Aberdeen City. In doing so, the book also assesses the contribution of the School to the North-East of Scotland and pays tribute to over eight hundred former pupils, who rank amongst Aberdeen's past and current most notable citizens.
