Publisher's Synopsis
'Bold & Underline' is a collection of two novellas that explore the darker side of the human condition: lies, greed, murder and other bad habits. We live in a world where that stranger across the room in your local cafe is likely just your average, well-meaning fellow human being; we don't tend to stumble upon the real villains of society. As an aspiring author, I insist the reader is snatched out of her mundane, everyday world and thrust into a universe of chaos, mystery and danger. As such, my characters tend to be outlandish or, at the very least, atypical; I don't want to explore a common character you can merely bump into at a cafe any given morning. My characters are usually devious and scheming, such that Lady Macbeth, herself, would blush; they are never happy with what they have - always wanting more until that insatiable desire ultimately becomes their undoing.... If you were ever to stumble upon one of my characters at a cafe, I would strongly suggest you find another place for your morning coffee fix....
Moral responsibility or relentless self-aggrandisement...? Quite a dilemma....As the story title implies, 'Bad Business' is just that, bad business. The story follows an uncanny group of C-suite executives, bribing and defrauding their way through the corporate world for personal gain. Slowly but surely, the lies and greed catch-up with them and end in a spectacular fashion - prison and death.... Some crimes are best left unsolved....
'Bloody Murder' pays homage to the 'film noir' genre of the 40's and 50's. The characters are cynical yet desperate and longing, as an air of pessimism, fatalism and menace constantly fills the room until the crime is finally solved - and sometimes still lingers thereafter.... Typical of my story telling, the lies and greed eventually boil-over and lead to something worse - murder. Who doesn't love a good, old-fashioned murder mystery...?
