It's 1958 and Bobby Olsen is determined to bring down two of the worst crime gangs in New York. Recently qualified as a private investigator and with a girlfriend linked to the underworld he sets about his noble quest. Then he meets Martha, who is dreaming of a Hollywood future while serving drinks in lowlife bars, and his heart is lost. They head west to start a new life but within weeks Martha goes missing and Bobby finds himself on an odyssey back across America in an attempt to find his girl. Pursued by gang members and inveigled by cops into their own struggles with the criminal world, he meets Miss Rios, a young independent woman looking for her own adventure in a fast changing world. Together they race against time to locate and rescue Martha and when the final showdown approaches Bobby finds himself faced with heartbreaking decisions.
