Publisher's Synopsis
1Located just off Virginia Highway 43 near the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Peaks of Otter Recreational Area, Saunders Farm is reported to have been owned by three generations of an African-American family in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century but has been unoccupied since at least 1947. The two surviving buildings on the farm are excellent examples of vernacular architecture, and the materials and craftsmanship with which they were constructed are a primary component of the site's significance.
