In Native American legend blue camas is endowed with special spiritual power. While horseback riding with her brother in the shadow of the Bitterroot Range of Montana, Brandy Lynn, is bucked off her horse in a blue camas meadow. Just eleven years old, something powerful is awakened in her. Her brother, Ferris, five years older, calms the horse and keeps it from breaking a leg that is held in the wet mud. Chagrined and angry Brandy, already an accomplished Montana horse girl, clamors out of the camas covered with mud. She has never been thrown from a horse before. She yells at the horse and attempts to slap him but her brother stops her, not wanting to get the horse riled up and hurt. They are miles from the home ranch. With a blue camas dangling from her hair Brandy suddenly puts her arms around her brother's neck and kisses him on the cheek. It had been building since the day Ferris watched his little sister being born. It would soon blossom into a powerful love affair, a love affair that was against the law of nature and the laws of man. Soon the spirit in the blue camas would be locked in desperate battle with the law.
