One of the objects of the Institute is to promote acquaintanceship, and therefore friendship, among its members. As one means to that end this book has been prepared. It is intended for circulation among the members of the Institute only, except that Copies will be sent to a number of the leading iron and steel producers of Europe.
These biographies are in no sense intended as eulo gies, tempting as that field would be in dealing with the records of very many of the members; they are simply statements of fact intended to serve as introductions of the members to each other.
