Publisher's Synopsis
This volume reconstructs the history of the Bengali public theatre through an evaluation of two autobiographies of the famous actress, Binodini Dasi. The gaps that are left in the autobiographies are duly filled up by the author in order to make the history of the theatre more complete. The book also throws some light on the poignant state and lives of the actresses of the time and explores the exploitation that they had to undergo at the hands of society.
