Excerpt from Biennial Report of the Superintendent of Public Instruction of North Carolina: Scholastic Years 1906-1907 and 1907-1908

The statistics compiled in this office for the biennial period beginning July 1, 1906, and ending June 30, 1908, show continued educational progress.

During this biennial period the annual available school fund raised by State and county taxation has been increased the additional funds raised by local taxation in special-tax districts have been increased in urban districts and in rural districts, making a total increase of $490 in the annual school fund raised by taxation, State, county and local. In addition, there were raised during the period, for educational purposes, $551, by bonds and by private donations.

During the period there has been an increase of 282 in the number of special tax school districts established by vote of the people, making the total number of such districts in the State to date 719.
