Publisher's Synopsis
Isaac Bashevis Singer is among the most gifted of Yiddish writers. He is also among the most prolific: the total number of his published works exceeds 4,000 and, until quite recently, had been increasing by some hundred odd titles per year. Relatively few of these works - especially those published in the periodical press during the early decades of Singer's productive career - have appeared in English translation; fewer yet have been collected in their original Yiddish. The result has been doubly regrettable: works of substantial merit have been overlooked and this, in turn, has skewed our perception of Singer's corpus as a whole. The present bibliography, which strives for complete coverage of the years 1924 through 1949, is an important step toward remedying this situation. Nearly 900 entries document Singer's publications in all formats and fora; titles are given in transcribed Yiddish with English translations and complete bibliographical data.
