This book lists all ascertainable English verse transcribed or composed during the years 1501-1558. It lists details of 2,045 poems, amounting to 567,000 lines of verse.;A companion volume to Ringler's "Bibliography and index of English verse printed 1476-1558" (1988), this is a bibliography of extant English verse transcribed in manuscript for the early Tudor period. Arranged in three parts: part 1 is a bibliography of manuscripts containing English verse datable within the period 1501-1558; manuscripts are described and poems in them listed, keyed to their placement in the second part. Part 2 is a first-line index of poems transcribed in the manuscripts, with full information on each (author, title, length, verse form, date, subject, genre etc). Part 3 is an index to the second part, divided into categories: burdens, refrains, verse form, poets, composers etc. An appendix lists three tables in concordance format.;The book is aimed at academic/institutional scholars, literary historians and sociologists of the English Renaissance and late Middle Ages, textual editors and bibliographers.
