There was' another quality which sprang from the original differ ence of race: a difference in spiritual insight and religious ideal. The Rajputs had their ancient tradition, which is put forth in the greater Upanishads, and Which held the twin doctrine of rebirth and libera tion. This tradition, as we have seen, was at first the hereditary teach ing of the Rajputs alone, and was much later imparted to the Brahmans.

The Brahmans also had their faith. In Indra and Agni, they adored.
