Publisher's Synopsis
Tom almost died when he was ten. He and his family had gone on a much anticipated camping trip into the mountains.
The trip turned into a nightmare when Tom fell off a cliff into a roaring stream down below. His memory of that event was sketchy at best. The one thing that had stayed with him all of these years was the beautiful bright light. He had no idea where it came from, but when he was surrounded by that light he felt warm and safe. His broken body didn't hurt in that light. The mountain man, Luke had always told Tom that he was the one who pulled Tom from the freezing cold water.
But something inside Tom just didn't believe that was the whole story. He loved Luke like a big brother, but there was something missing from Luke's version of the events that day.
Tom is happy with his life now. He has met a new girl whom he likes very much. He has a good job and he lives in an apartment that is close to everything including his work. Evie is everything he has always wanted in a girlfriend. She is beautiful, kind and full of life. They have discovered they have a lot in common too. Tom hasn't yet told Evie about his experience with the light. He needed answers about that light but the only way to get them was to ask the mountain man, Luke. How will Evie react to this information? Would she think he was crazy? Would Luke even tell him the truth about what happened that day? But something is niggling at the back of Tom's mind. Something big is coming, he can feel it and it isn't good. As this feeling grows stronger he begins to get snippets of information from the world that things aren't what they seem. He begins to discuss what is happening with Evie. Finally, he goes on a camping trip to talk to the mountain man. What he reveals to Tom both stuns him and makes him realize he has to find the answers. Now that he knows what that light was, he has more questions than answers.
When their world starts to fall apart Tom and Evie and their family escape to the mountains just in time. They soon discover many of their friends have also escaped and are now in the mountains too. They all owe their lives to a Light Being named Alto. Without the Light Being's help none of them would have survived. But even now as they are building a new community in the mountains with the Light Being's help another threat is looming on the horizon. Will they ever find the peace they are all searching for?
