Bess Trulyis hoping that her summer of 1956 to be a relaxing break from the adventures she's had in th emonths past. She gets the opportunity to fly with her father to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to celebrate National Aviation Day. She jumps at the chance to visit a place she;s never been before, and hopes for some fun and a bit of relaxation on the beach. Viewing the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean for the first time is going to be a far different view than what she normally sees at her home of Three Winds, New Mexico.
Bess helps fly across the country in her father Steve Truly's incredible aircraft, the Starlighter, a fast silver disc that is quicker than most planes. But after arriving on the distant east coast of North Carolina, things take an ominous turn for Bess and her friends. A strange wave washes schools of hungry sharks close to shore, right at the feet of unsuspecting swimmers. When a fishing boat reports seeing a sea monster, most people can't believe it, until a badly damaged charter yacht is discovered by Bess just offshore from her beach side vacation home. It is adrift on the ocean, and it seems to have a huge bite taken out of it.Things go from bad to worse as Bess, her friends, and her family discover a sinister plot by enemy agents, along with a dangerous and potentially deadly weapon that seems like it cannot be stopped. A huge mysterious creature swims in the ocean, just offshore, causing mayhem and damage, while spies plot their own forms of destruction, with Bess as their desired target.Bess and her faithful friends will face off against a dangerous enemy and a mechanical monster. They will need all their fearlessness and determination to stop the destruction in Bess Truly And The Hyaline Shark.
