This manual has been written to help develop practice in bereavement counselling for people with learning disabilities. It has been clearly and helpfully set out into four distinct sections.
Section One introduces the bereavement counselling project for people with learning disabilities as the basis from which the manual evolved. It goes on to examine the counsellor practitioner as being at the heart of the participatory action research study and explains the concept of using a counselling manual to guide and promote positive counselling practice.
Section Two looks at developing approaches to bereavement counselling and introduces the challenges and issues faced when working with bereaved people with learning disabilities.
Section Three then explores the bereavement counselling process itself. Section Four explores creativity within that counselling process. The manual is accompanied by a resource pack offering numerous tools to support practice including sample letters, questionnaires and cue cards. Readership: This guide will help organisations to develop bereavement counselling services for their client population and will also be useful in supporting training and development for counselling practice, and also as a resource in supervision.
